Andrea and Richard - Engagement Session -

When he knocked on her door; their lives changed forever. Richard had a new job nearby and was looking for a rental. The unit above Andrea's was vacant. Dressed in black chaps & motorcycle wearing sunglasses and helmet in hand; Richard knocked on Andrea's door to ask about the unit above. Many questions later the he asked for her hand in marriage.

Marrisa and Michael Wedding Day

Marissa and Mike had such a beautiful sunny day to join their lives together on. Their ceremony was absolutely beautiful along with a beautiful reception at The Woodwinds in Branford, CT. My favorite image of the day/ the year for that matter! When I was capturing Marissa's entrance to the church, one of Marissa's and Mike's ring bearers peeked past the Holy Water Font as the bride walked up to the church.

I LOVE capturing emotion. I how her mascara is running with her tears during her first dance with her father.

Huge props to Mr. Eric Foley for lending his talent for the day as a team shooter and Amanda Nesto for assisting.

It's Official!!! Introducing Team Val McCormick!

As I type this blog post tears are streaming down my face overwhelmed by emotion. I am so grateful for all the positive things that has happened in my life. I started my business in CT taking a risk. First of all coming from out of state, there were so many established studios how would I ever get my name out? Last season was amazing. I meet so many amazing people; Incredible photographers turned friends, client turned friends, and friends and family of clients turned friends. Without them my business would not be where it is.

Business has been picking up and although last season I regretfully had to turn away a few weddings to insure quality service for current clients. I felt horrible receiving that email from that bride that had a terrible experience and heard of the great a experience a friend had with Val McCormick Photography asking if I would please make an exception to accept their wedding. How can I turn away a bride that has already envisioned herself a subject of my art?

I needed to make a change. Although many times I say "yes" wanting to please everyone I found myself working all hours day and night at the computer. As my children played joyfully, sounds of laughter and pitter patter throughout my home; my back was to them face lit by the glow of my computer screen. As guest would visit, the sound of laughter as my husband would tell a funny joke; my back was to them face lit by the glow of my computer screen. When the phone would ring and the answering machine picked up; the sound of my father's voice " Hi Valerie, I know you must be very busy with work. We haven't heard from you. Gives a call when you get a chance"; my back to the machine face lit by the glow of my computer screen. My home dark late at night, my family a floor above sleeping peacefully in their beds; I was a floor below, my face lit by the glow of my computer screen. All the while my face lit by the glow of my computer screen ; my heart was breaking. Breaking because in life as I know and often tell my brides; once a day has been lived you can't get that day back.

I once read somewhere how when it snows one snowflake doesn’t fall during a storm, millions do. As they build up and stick together, they accomplish a lot. Billions of them can become inches, maybe even feet tall and blanket miles upon miles. If I want to achieve success and change my life, I would need help from others eventually.

It is with honor that I am pleased to announce Kris and Joanne are officially part of team Val McCormick Photography. As I was that one snowflake ready to melt when I landed on that pavement, we are now a team. Together we are like a powerful storm that can shut down a city! We are Team Val McCormick Photography!

When we walked back to Kris' car he realized that his keys were missing out of his pocket. Yes and not one but two sets! We traced back our steps. I licked my index finger and held it up in the air and waited for the wind to tell me what direction to go. OK maybe that didn't happen but I did find the keys. Both sets. One set was a little buried. Maybe he stomped them into the ground. When editing the photos we nearly fell out of our chairs laughing. Check it out below.

Rachel & Ryan - Engagement Session - Gouveia Vineyards, CT

Rachel and Ryan met at a party during the college years. Not having seen each other in seven years they found each other again when Ryan walked into Rachel's current workplace. They have been inseparable ever since.

With the crazy weather and all the rain in CT; Rachel and Ryan's session was rescheduled a few times. We finally were able to meet up at the beautiful Gouveia Vineyards in Wallingford, CT and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day.

Rachel's ring is stunning! I love the texture of the wood in the shot.

Vanessa and Gabriel - Engagement Session - Hanford, CA

You better believe I was SUPER excited to shoot this engagement session. It was so awesome to get an email from Vanessa asking if I would come out to CA to shoot her wedding. How could I say no? A trip home, 4th of July weekend, surrounded by family. I have known Vanessa well, all my life; she is my cousin. :-)

Vanessa and Gabriel LOVE ice cream shoppes. What better way to start out an engagement session with two ice cream lovers (Make that three) than Superior Dairy Ice Cream in Downtown Hanford.

What was left of the S.O.S. Yes, what was left. That is one HUGE homemade sundae!!!

There was this really cool boutique called Rouge downtown. We noticed the lip couch and took full advantage of it. (Check out the slideshow at the end of the post to see many more shots).

Can't wait for the wedding! See all of you guys soon!

Kaitlyn & Alan - Engagement Session - Yale Campus, New Haven, CT

Kaitlyn and Alan knew eachother in high school. They reunited through friends while they were in college. Kaitlyn would hang out with her girlfriends and Alan with his guy friends. They would all get together and wanting to keep friendships alive they made a pact that no one would date within their group. That didn't happen. Kaitlyn and Alan are getting married!

I met up Kaitlyn and Alan at the Yale Campus in New Haven, CT for their engagement sessions.

Brianna & Jason - Engagement Session - Wickham Park

I'm sure everyone has a moment or a brief period in their lifetime that they remember being overcome by that giddy, restless and overwhelming feeling of puppy love. When so privileged as to be infatuated with someone that the world brightens around you at the mere memory of their tentative first words and shy smiles. Perhaps not everyone becomes as excitable as I did in the days following our chance encounter at the local Home Depot, with the idea of wiping the unintentional smile off my face laughable and the long hours at work somehow shortened by the anticipation of Jason's first phone call, but I can't imagine this kind of feeling being anything but splendid and I truly hope that each of you are able to envision it as vividly as I do.

I needed to build a dog house for Scampi. With the help of my father, I found that what I lacked were a couple pints of weatherproof paint (color later decided upon as a forest green that was in actuality much too bright to blend in with the deep woods of Ashford) and most of a roof's number of charcoal shingles. Thus, late-morning on a Sunday in July, I found myself wandering the tall aisles of the Home Depot in Windham, CT, swinging a can of paint and a can of white outdoor primer from one arm and wondering how I was going to hoist the awkward package of shingles onto my shoulder without making a fool of myself.

Cue Jason.

It was amazing. I turned out of the lamp aisle where I had been wasting time, too embarrassed to ask for help with the parcel one row down from where I was pretending to be interested in a horrendous ceiling hanging that gave off a rather garish yellow glow, and saw a familiar figure silhouetted in the sunshine pouring in through the automatic sliding doorway of the store. Was I ever glad to see him! From his fiendishly handsome grin (that didn't disappear from the moment he recognized me) to his generously formed biceps that so easily placed my shingles into the cart, I could not have been more excited to find myself in a situation where I had an excuse to rekindle our easy camaraderie.

Five days and a Scampi/Tia dog walk later, I was sold. Conversations of hours upon hours flew by like minutes, the more I learned, the more I fell in love with not only his charm and his good looks, but his noble way of treating the world and the beautiful way in which he lives each day. Now, years later, I find myself endlessly moved by the same incredible man, one who I have been both challenged and inspired by as our lives now continue on together, one who has miraculously turned out to be my best friend and the love of my life.

Here’s to you and I, Jason, and to all those who have made us who we are. For the beautiful history we now have together and for all the dog walks yet to come.

Lisa is a celebrity Make-Up artist and heads up the make-up dept. for E! Entertainment in Los Angeles, CA. She was recently featured in a few magazines and blogs. Gillian and Michael Married - The Pavilion on Crystal Lake

Gillian and Michael had a beautiful wedding on such a beautiful bright sunny day. We started the day with Gillian as she prepared for her big day to marry Michael.

Her ring was Amazing!!!

So was her dress!!! Absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

Funny there are always bloopers. What's wrong with the picture above? Wonder if you can figure it out?

I love to capture the reaction of the bride and groom when they see each other during the ceremony. Watching their eyes make that connection. I can only imagine the emotion of "We are getting married", racing through their minds. The view was beautiful and serene at The Pavilion on Crystal Lake.

I love how has Gillian held Michael's ring in hand it just seemed to be blessed from above as clouds parted for a tiny beam of light to strike only the ring.

I also love to watch the bride and groom's parents as the couple say their vows. In this case the ceremony was full of emotion.

I just wanted to take a few moments to thank my wonderful clients and team members for making the Sexy Holiday Marathon a success. There was so much beauty and positive energy in the air. Ivette Wellman did a PHENOMENAL job with airbrush/make-up and Lindsay Panettiere did a marvelous job with hair style.

I have received thank you notes that really moved me to tears. It is a great realization of what Val McCormick Photography/ Sexy, Classy, Romantic boudoir is. Empowering! I am SO excited for the next marathon just in time for Valentines Day on January 24th. Holy Moly Val!

I cannot thank you enough for the photo shoot yesterday. I've never had my makeup professionally done or have loved my hair so much. And you captured me in ways that I am so grateful for. You truly have a gift that runs far beyond photography. You have just given me a huge piece of myself that I had lost through my failed marriage. My self esteem. Thank you. Although the weather called for heavy rain and thunderstorms; Shannon was not going to let that stop her from enjoying the happiest day of her life. The day she and her forever would marry. Shannon and Tim tied the knot at Wickham Park and were so excited about how beautiful the gardens are there. I can see why. They have beautiful romantics to celebrate on of the most important days of their lives. Here are just a few highlights from their day. I returned to Lyman Orchards yet again for another FANTABULOUS engagement session! We headed over to the church, had a beautiful Mass then went to the reception held at The Salem Cross Inn in West Brookfield, MA. Another amazing venue to throw me into sensory overload. Kelley & Derrik - Engagement Session - Harkness Park

They have known each other since the 6th grade! A graduation party of a mutual friend proved that everything happens for a reason! Meet Kelley and Derrik.

Jason and Jennifer - Engagement Session - Lyman Orchard, CT

They had the same group of friends for years but in May 2008 that all changed. Jennifer and Jason both attended a BBQ where they started to talk. Eventually they began e-mailing each other, calling each other and dating. The rest is history.

Jennifer and Jason were so much fun to shoot at Lyman Orchards. Since Jennifer is a huge fan of Sunflowers we started off there!

(Side note: Doesn't beautiful Jennifer remind you of Alexis Bledel?)

When we first walked in I almost immediately noticed this sunflower that resembled a heart. I thought it was perfect for Jennifer's ring. There were a gazillion bees buzzing around and I'm surprise I didn't pass out from the many times I panicked.

I love shooting hands; they are so personal and really tell a story.

This random cat totally showed up during the shoot. So what does Val do? Go with it :-)

Jennifer & Robert- Engagement Session- Amherst, MA

Jennifer and Robert are such a sweet couple. After reading their Get to know you, I thought it would be so cool to shoot their e-session at the very place that started their "Once upon a time" I was elated when Jennifer e-mailed me and asked if we could shoot it their as well. PERFECT! It was a misty day when we arrived. Showers were coming but that was stopping us.

Love the texture of this door and for good measure, I layered in some more texture ;-P

Now this door is a VERY SPECIAL door. This is the door that takes you into North Hall. This is where they met as they were both assigned dorm rooms in this building. So in a nutshell; this was THEIR building. This is where it all began ;-)

Across from their building I spotted this cool red hot fire hydrant. What a beautiful contrast to the blue!

In this questionnaire I give to my couples to fill so I can get to know them a little better. They mentioned how they love scrabble. So I made sure to tell them to bring their scrabble game along with them. Their names worked out awesomely! Check out their ring shot!

So by the end of out session the misty drops became heavier and thicker. I asked if they knew of any tunnels or walkthoughs that we could take cover in. Rob remembered this tunnel in one of the bike trails. So cool and white. I love the shots we got in here.

Thanks for showing me around the campus Jen & Rob. I can't wait for you wedding. The paella sounds delicious!

My Heart is Smiling :-)

Sometimes we have bad days. I try not to. I always try to see the glass half full vs. half empty. I love to feel happy. Who doesn't? Yesterday I had one of those days where not matter how I try to look at things I felt so unappreciated. I guess I will be the first to admit; I am human. I have feelings that get hurt. What is awesome is that I was so frustrated I had to let it off of my chest. The responses brought tears to my eyes. The tears that make you smile; you know that kind of smile you feel all over. The kind of smile that makes you feel like your heart is smiling along with you. That happy feeling in your chest. I love that feeling. Who wouldn't? So I just want to let everyone that responded with happy I appreciate you comments that I appreciate you so much too! Thanks for being an awesome friend! Now here is one of my cheer up messages I received. I sound like a broken record but "I HAVE THE MOST AWESOME BRIDES" I am SO LUCKY! Thanks Jennifer for the awesome cheer-up, you really went the extra mile. Take a look, this cracked me up.

Matt & Taylor - Married - St. Clements Castle

I hope no one goes into cardiac arrest at the amazement that I am blogging again. This wedding season has totally snuck up on me but I am so excited to share so many shoots and weddings with you. Starting with Matt and Taylor's wedding. It was a gorgeous day with a gorgeous couple and wedding. Taylor is an amazing person. So enthusiastic about life. She had me in tears as most of my brides do. Take a look at her beautiful wedding with a few images.

Pretty details. The lace under the satin ribbon on Taylor's dress was from her grandmother's wedding dress, so awesome!

Matt was a Marine and most of his guest were his marine buddies. They ended the night with serenading Taylor. She was absolutely glowing with excitement. As her friends and family surrounded her; her excitement brewed within her as ceremony time grew closer and closer. She slipped into her beautiful Pronovias wedding gown. Her radiance pervaded the sun lit room. She gracefully made her way to the limousine waiting to escort her on her new excursion of life.

Krystyna is a Huge Elvis fan. I had to implement Elvis during details.

Myra and Corey - Engaged - West Haven Beach

With wedding season here I have really fallen behind with blog post. So this blog is being ram sacked with post over the next few days. Starting off with Myra and Corey's E-Session, coming up Amber and Chris's E-Session, Krystyna and Kenny's wedding, Erica and Frank's wedding, Shannon and Tim's wedding, Gillian and Mike's wedding, Jenny and Alan's wedding, and Taylor and Matt's wedding. Stay tuned!

Myra and Corey are tying the knot real soon! I have been looking forward to this wedding since I have known Myra three years now. Her daughter and my son were attending the same school and we would visit when dropping or picking our children up.

I was so excited in Myra contacted me. She told me up front she didn't want to look for anyone else she knew she wanted me to be their photographer. What an honor it is! Myra and Corey's engagement session was fun since we included her daughter and their son in the session. Why not? The family is getting married :-)

With a smiles like that I would say this was a great start to a wonderful session!

Nicole & Matt - Engagement Session

Her cousin just knew they were right for each other. Matt was a friend of her cousin's husband. One weekend in the spring of 2005, after being invited over Nicole visited her cousin and met Matt. Nicole's cousin was right. They were PERFECT for each other. Now the next chapter in their story begins...

They both love hanging out at the beach. So we shot their engagement session at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven, CT.

Details, details, details.

As we were getting ready to head over to the beach area I spotted this little patch of daisies growing randomly across from one of the parking lots. I did a little Val happy dance and pointed over where I wanted them to go. Nicole decided to change outfits first so while she went to the car to change, Matt picked some daisies to surprise her with. It was so sweet to witness the love between them. Be sure to catch the slideshow at the end of this blog entry to see the expression on her face.

This is my favorite shot of the day.

Jordana & Tyson

Though the forecast predicted all day stormy weather the day started out bright and sunny as can be. Jordana and Tyson's wedding was beautiful. The itinerary was a photographer's dream. Jordana and Tyson opted for a first look prior to their ceremony at the site of the reception. This reception site was gorgeous it is a beautiful home/bed and breakfast of a family friend. The views were astounding. Jordana and Tyson allotted plenty of time prior to the ceremony for their first look and shots of the bridal party and after the ceremony for romantics. Be sure to watch the slide show to see just a glimpse of how beautiful this wedding was.

Jordan and Tyson had just returned from Honduras a month before the wedding. They brought this gourd back with them. It's pretty cool looking something special to capture their rings with.

Yeah imagine the excitement when I saw that she was wearing green shoes :-) Yeah Val McCormick is going to have fun with that one!

It started to rain here but I didn't care. I saw these doors and had this shot in my head. It had to happen. I love the texture here. I thought it would really help Jordana "pop" in front of this door that seemed to have a vignette. I placed Tyson in front of the manly dark door, lol. I love the result!

It really started to come down and the super talented Nikki Nicole noticed this corridor that we could shoot under until the rain slowed down.

This location was gorgeous and one can really shoot all day there. I found this cool niche near the corridor and borrowed Jordana's bouquet for a unique bouquet shot.

I caught this during the introductions right before their first dance. There were so many images I wanted to post but it would never load for you reading this fast enough so you can catch the rest of the highlights in the slide show :-)

Erica & Brad - Married

Erica such a beautiful bride with a beautiful smile! David Apuzzo of David Apuzzo photography contacted me asking if I can help him out with this one. Second shooting is so fun. I love shooting all the details of the day. Erica chose such great colors, purple and mint green. Such an awesome combination! Here are some highlights from my perspective of the day :-)

I started out in the balcony for a birds eye perspective.

I love watching the expressions of the parents of the bride and grooms as they say their vows to one another. Here the bride's mother looked over at her husband when their daughter said "I Do" I bet it brought her back to the day she married; they still seem very much in love :-)

She has such a gorgeous smile! I caught this moment during the receiving line.

Just look at the great smile the mother of the bride is sporting. Must be where Erica gets it from.

Details. Her dress was beautiful!

Details, details, details. I love the great color combinations Erica chose. Such beautiful flowers!

Working with David was great in that he allowed me to guide Erica during her bridal shots. I love when I see so many great shots in my head that I can bring out through my lens. Thanks, David :-)

Gillian and Michael - Engagement Session - Mystic, CT

Gillian and Michael met in College, Western Connecticut State University to be exact. If you really want details it was in Newbury Hall room 20 which was a friend's dorm room. It's been a little over 10 years ago, now they will marry their best friend. (Eachother)

We meet up at Mystic Aquarium for their engagement session. Michael is a huge fan of fish. A great fisherman and musician. I couldn't believe how he knew about so many species of fish. It was great to see how excited he was to see certain fish in the tanks. Here is a recap of the day. Who doesn't love a Love Story? I am such a lucky girl with an incredible job! Documenting such a beautiful thing...Chapter upon chapters of Love Stories.

I am over the moon about meeting Tim and Shannon. Shannon truly is an incredible soul! So free spirited and kind. She wouldn't hurt a fly or an ant for that matter, I'm being serious here!

We headed out to Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven, CT for Tim and Shannon's engagement session.

So we planned on getting some shots with the sun setting on the beach. We literally chased the light and Shannon was so excited she ran like there was no tomorrow. I love how whimsical this shot turned out although I shot it all in fun as I was running. Doesn't she remind you of Laura Engles? I call this "Chasing The Light".

It's no secret that I LOVE to shoot weddings. I also love teaming up with other awesome photographers. It's so fun to see and experience different shooting styles and techniques. I had an amazing time shooting with my friends and the oh so talented duo, Candace and Josh Jeffery of Candace Jeffery Photography. It was a great pleasure to meet Patty and Tim, their friends and family. The day started out in Stamford, CT. with the girls. I can't tell you how excited I was to see the fabulously talented Naomi Martinez working make-up on the girls.

What's a Val wedding post without a shoe shot. Gotta have a fun shoe shot! When I saw this safe in the room where the bride was getting ready; I saw this in my head. I had to bring to life, especially with the way the light was coming in.

It was an emotional moment for Patty's grandmother and father to see her in her gown for the first time. I love that her father is capturing the moment with a Canon :-)

The shot above and below are the most powerful of the night. Tragically Tim's family was killed in a horrific car accident. Patty's mother danced the mother/son dance with Tim. There was not a dry eye in the room. Including mine.

Alysia and Jeff - Engagement Session - Mystic, CT

"As cliche as it might sound, fate brought the two of us together. Jeff moved to Clearwater, Florida from Milford, CT to start a new job and a few months later I moved to Tampa, Florida from Philadelphia, PA to start a new job. Our paths crossed and we had our first date at Frenchy's on Clearwater beach in October of 2006. After a few Florida summers we decided that we wanted to make our way back north. We decided on Stamford, CT. We joke that we had to move to Florida to find each other!" - Alysia

Yes, fate did bring these two together. The chemistry between is incredible. In getting to know Alysia and Jeff the first thing I thought that would be perfect would be an Apple Picking session at Lymon Orchards but unfortunately Jeff was in Florida and we just missed apple picking season. No worries Alysia and Jeff also love visiting aquariums. Soooooo.....of course I had a mall is open and sale signs just went up in every window moment! MYSTIC!

First stop was the aquarium. It was a cloudy, misty day and we prayed that the rain would hold off. I'm sure glad it did because we had some fun outdoors after leaving the aquarium.

Super cool Jelly Fish!

Sidenote: trying to shoot a ring underwater with kids making the water wave makes for difficulty focusing. It took me about 5 minutes to get the shot but I was determined!

Melissa & Michael - Engagement Session - Thomas Hooker Beer Brewery, CT

I love, love, love really getting to know my clients. It just makes for a super personal experience because after all documenting our lives is personal. In getting to know Melissa and Michael; it was clear that they were huge beer fans. When I say huge fans Michael had me speechless on how much he knew about beer. Val McCormick - Speechless???? Yeah, that's HUGE!!!

As soon as I found out what fans they are, I made a call to the Thomas Hooker Beer Brewery. I was delighted to be in touch with Curt Cameron not to be confused with Growing Pains "Kirk", lol. Curt was kind enough to set up a day that Melissa, Michael and I would have the whole place to ourselves and never forget. Along with tastings including Watermelon Ale ;-) Check out the fun we had below and be sure to stop by the brewery's site to check out all the happenings.

Excited and anxious those were the emotions going on inside. I'm sure the bride and groom felt that way too but in this case I am writing about my emotions! When I met Claudia and Jeff and learned how this would be a multi-cultural wedding I jumped out of my seat and did a triple back hand spring. O.K. maybe I just had an Ally McBeal moment and imagined I did but that's how excited I was.

This would be a two day event. Starting with a Mehndi celebration on day one and an Indian/Western wedding celebration on day two. These celebrations were full, of love, joy and warmth. I was treated like family and I can't say enough about Claudia and Jeff.

Jacqueline of Lifetime Events by Jacqueline was the wedding coordinator for this wedding and she has got a talent. She did a beautiful job coordinating the day's events. If your ever in need of an event planner be sure to look Jacqueline up.

Racing to Save Lives

Dear Friends & Family,

Without a doubt, I am getting ready for one of the most fun challenges of my life. On September 12, 2009, I will be racing in an Olympic distance triathlon in Pacific Grove, CA! That's a .9 mile swim, 24.8 mile bike ride, and 6.1 mile run, and yes all in one day. Luckily, I am not doing this on my own. I have joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. Through this program, I have great coaches, mentors and teammates whose support will help me cross the finish line.

More importantly even than my physical commitment to the program is my commitment to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in its effort to battle Leukemia and related cancers. These diseases strike some 107,000 Americans each year and acute leukemia is the number one cause of death of children under the age of 15.

One of the greatest contributions of the Society is toward research. Significant progress has been made in the treatment of this disease, and researchers are now optimistic that they will find a cure within 6 years!

I am not only competing in this race for the Society, but also in honor Esther Fluke, a Baby Boomer and a mother of three girls and two grandchildren. Esther was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in June 2005, along with fighting T-Cell Lymphoma, which was found in 1992.

Research is the key to finding a cure, and funding for this research is essential. I have set a personal goal to raise $3,200 toward this effort.

As I compete in this Olympic distance triathlon, you will be with me in spirit, and your sponsorship will inspire me to train harder and faster to the finish line. Whatever you can do to contribute matters it all adds up! With over 75% of your donation going directly to research, you truly can make a difference.

*UPDATE: The spot seen is believed to be benign. The doc feels that with Jan's frail state it is too risky to biopsy it. She will have another scan next month. Our hopes are that this tumor will stay the same and not continue to grow. Under normal circumstances it would be removed by surgery. The MD does not feel she will withstand surgery. Please keep her in your prayers. The power of prayer, good hopes and positive vibes is so powerful. Thanks so much.

Just a little note to all of my friends, colleagues and clients. The last two weeks have been filled with out of the ordinary surprises. Not that happy kind of surprise. The kind of surprise that is defined by the unexpected. I have had trouble sleeping, have been having random bouts of crying but then I bounce right back because I realize all the positive things I have in life. Best of all YOU! My supportive family, my friends and my awesome clients turned friends. I would hate for any one of you to ever feel that your not important to me.

Let me share with you someone VERY special in our lives, Janet. Janet is my husband Jack's Aunt technically; but in reality she is his mother. You see when Jack was a toddler his mother unfortunately lost a battle to MS. Jack's father was left to raise his two children alone. Working nights made this nearly impossible so Jack's two aunts stepped in to help raise him. The family suffered another loss this time to cancer leaving only Aunt Janet to raise Jack. She basically dedicated all of her time to raising my husband. Never marrying or having any children of her own. Jack is her son.

Janet is the most kind and caring person you will ever meet. Anyone that has had the pleasure of meeting her could tell you what a kind gentle spirit she is. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful mother in law. Janet has not been herself lately. This Tuesday the day started with a visit to her doctor. During the visit this nagging won't go away cough was mentioned. After having an chest X-ray the doctor called with concerning news. A spot was seen on one of her lungs that was not there on previous X-rays. After of series of events she had a CAT scan today. We will not hear the results until Tuesday.

As I type this I can't help to think what will we do without her? I pray that it is something very simple, something that can be fixed. I believe in the power of prayer, in positive energy, in good vibes whatever it is you can send our way would be TRULY appreciated. I am so thankful for all you.

Krystyna & Kenny - Engaged

They meet through mutual friends; had dinner at Ruby Tuesday's and the rest was history. She could light up a room with her beautiful smile or as Kenny would put it; her smile is like the sun. I met Krystyna and Kenny for the first time on the day of their engagement session. I felt as if I have know them for years. She told me about the house they bought together and how hard they have been working on it. She also told me all about their baby; Mishu (their Yorkie). Krystyna is also an avid gardener and what a green thumb she has. It absolutely made sense to start their session at home!

Mishu was so FUNNY! As soon as the shutter would stop he was like ATTACK CANON MARK II!

Taylor and Matt - Engaged - Boston, MA/Fenway Park

Another post LONG overdue! Before I get to Taylor and Matt I have just got to say that this was such an interesting day! It took us longer to get to Boston than what we planned on. Let's just say spike strips, federal, state and city agencies, rifles and propel water was to blame.

Taylor and Matt knew each other since they were little ity bity grade schoolers. After high school they didn't see each other until fate brought them back together while Matt was in the military in North Carolina. Matt popped the question after spending the day together in Boston, MA. His favorite place so I've learned. (Side Note: Matt makes an awesome tour guide, LOL.) Matt is also a HUGE Redsox fan.

Here was the plan. We shoot their engagement session in Boston (that was a given). Here is where the crazy day begins:

Matt's idea of the day that was planned was:

Arrive in Boston. Get some shots around the outside of Fenway Park on Yawkey Way., visit some breweries, go to Mike's Pastry on the North End for some Canolli's (Which they did the day he proposed), Go back to the spot where he proposed and get down on bended knee for the Camera (Surprise Taylor).

Taylor's idea of the day that was planned was:

Arrive in Boston. Get some shots around the INSIDE and OUTSIDE of Fenway Park and on Yawkey Way. (Surprise Matt), Go to the Commons and to Mike's Pastry because they are so good and "Val, you have to try it!"

Val's idea of the day that was planned was: This is going to be AWESOME!!!

Here is Matt's expression when he found out we were actually going to be privately escorted into the Ball Park. Straight from he camera.....He really did turn that shade of red!

Matt and Taylor are getting married July 19th so of course I had to incorporate it, Val style into the session.

We were not there at the best time of day so I had to bust out the reflector for this shot.

After leaving Fenway Park we headed over to the Boston Common.

I absolutely LOVE this shot. I become such a dork when I get shots like this; I practically hyperventilate from the excitement and begin to talk like a chipmunk on crack!

After leaving Boston Common we headed over to the waterfront; to the exact spot Matt proposed. He then went down on his knee. How sweet is that?

We were all cracking up....Wouldn't you like to know why?

Thanks so much Matt and Taylor!!! We had a great long day. Matt and Taylor treated me to Mike's Pastry and Fiore's restaurant in the North End. If you haven't tried either of those places put it on your list of things to do. It was incredible! There were far too many to post so check out the slide show to see the rest. Enjoy!

Jordana and Tyson - Engaged

Three and half years ago Jordana and Tyson met at orientation for Medical School. Tyson gave Jordana a piggy back ride off of a dinner cruise boat because her feet hurt. He also by chance lived directly below Jordana. Tyson and his roommates thought they would woo the girls by cooking breakfast. They have been inseparable ever since....They love to do everything together including going to park, the beach, studying and even doing laundry and shopping. What better way to document their love. Of course I suggested a laundry mat and grocery store too; why not ;-)

Jordana indicated that she loves red brick and wanted some shots during their engagement session incorporating just that.

Would you look at those boots; Come On! I had to rock them!

Then it was off to the do some laundry; well, sort of.

Since Jordana and Tyson tie the knot on May 24, 2009; we totally took over machine #24!

This machine only took quarters ;-)

After running out of quarters and personal space (Everyone does their laundry on Sundays!); we headed over to the market. Tyson is from Washington and their wedding theme is Washington Apples!!! So of course me being Val McCormick headed straight for the produce section.

Look at Miss Jordana all working that attitude. Tyson didn't even flinch. (O.k so he dropped a few apples but it's all good; he bought them) ;-)

Do you think these will last until their wedding day?

After making some unexpected purchases we headed over to beach. The light was beautiful whenever it peaked through the clouds that is. Mother nature was challenging me and my settings that's for sure!

It was cold, we were tired but before leaving we got this last shot. Tyson wanted a shot with the trees and this is what I got for them. What a great way to end their session!!!

Beautiful Baby Olivia

Before formal introductions to Olivia. I've noticed that I receive quite a bit of visitors and I often wonder who visits my blog. So if you would be so kind to say "Hi" I would love to hear from you. Meet beautiful Olivia who was introduced to life in Connecticut on February 19, 2009. I absolutely LOVE newborns. Since I have all boys, I get all giddy around baby girls. To tell you the truth it kind of gives me the bug to be around newborn girls but then I remind myself it's 50/50 ;-) Anywho.....at four weeks old she was all about working the camera.

Actually it really looks like I posed her that way but she just happened to pull her arm up. Baby's are so advanced these days.

Tip for photographers or mommy's wanting a shot like this. Use a surface that can be warmed up. I held the charger up to a portable heater to warm up the surface. Baby's HATE anything cold. Unless my client owns a portable heater; I will bring my own.

I LOVE this shot! The first thing Erica (Mommy) and Frank (Daddy) bought for Olivia when Erica found out she was pregnant was a HUGE duck. So the "Yellow Duck" became a meaningful character for Olivia. This is actually a puppet that Frank placed next to Olivia. As I was checking my camera settings and checking for exposure Olivia Yawned and this was the outcome.

The love for daddy's little girl was SO apparent. I love how Frank had different methods of calming Olivia and Erica's expression.

Claudia and Jeffrey - Engagement Session - New Haven Style

Meet Jeffrey and Claudia. I absolutely adore these two! Claudia is so genuine, kind and caring. Jeffrey is so outgoing, fun and funny! I love how they balance each other and the chemistry between them. Let me just say it was pretty cold out but what they had going on warmed the area up around them. How they met reminds me of characters from a true love story. He's a doctor and she is a nurse. They met at the medical center they work at five years ago. Ahhhhh, I love, love :-) We started off the morning near the New Haven, CT. On the way into New Haven Jeffrey spotted Mamoun's Falafel Restaurant. In college he and is room mate would make a 40 minute commute just to eat there and order take it (during the same visit). We shot a few frames and found our way back to the restaurant. It was my first time there and I can see why he loved it so much!

They are Jets fans and requested I incorporate that in their ring shot.

It was so easy to capture the emotion between them.

I loved the texture of the stairs against their jeans and shoes. I added a little more texture I shot while on our shoot.

She is so beautiful!

Finally arrived at Mamouns. Thank you so much Claudia and Jeffery. I had such a great time hanging out with you two and the food was delicious!

Boudoir Session - Ms. "M"

Seems that I have been receiving more request lately for "Boudoir Sessions". Boudoir shoots are sexy suggestive photo shoots that give you the opportunity to wear whatever you want. Whether it be his favorite shirt or jersey and tie, playful lingerie or a beautiful corset. The whole idea is to feel beautiful and create a special gift for him. Custom designed albums from the sexy shoot always gets his full attention and makes a great gift especially on your wedding day.

Here are a few shots that I grabbed of sexy Ms. "M". I met Ms. "M" through Ultra Cool Photographer David Apuzzo, be sure to check out his blog. David has an art and photography studio in Hamden, CT that is worth checking out. Ms. "M" is a friend of David's and a beautiful actress. Since Boudoir is so popular these days David asked me to visit his studio and shoot with him. It's always great to team up with other photographers. You can learn so much from one another as everyone has their own style and approach to their work. Thanks for having me David and thanks Ms. "M" for allowing me to share these with everyone.

Stephanie and Nate - Married - Harrington Farm, Princeton, MA

Such an adorable couple, Stephanie and Nate. Stephanie and Nate are high school sweethearts. They met in English class and according to Stephanie would secretly stare at eachother from across the room. How sweet is that? :-) Major props to the one and only Nikki Nicole of Nikki Nicole Photography who team shot this one with me.

Nate was relaxed and hanging out with the guys. He has a tradition with is friends and family to share a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue on their wedding day.

(So, what's a quinceañera?) Sweet 15 for Sweet Ashley

This post is long overdue. Meet beautiful Ashley. It was so heartwarming to be surrounded by such a close family. I had such a great time capturing this traditional and important time in her life. The time when a child becomes a woman and renews her faith in God as a woman. This event was so traditional in so many ways and it took me back to my sweet 15. An event in my life that I will never forget.

Prior to Ashley's Quinceanera we meet up for a fun teen fashion shoot for her guest book.

The Quinceanera celebration traditionally begins with a religious ceremony. A Reception is held in the home or a banquet hall. The festivities include food and music, and in most, a choreographed waltz or dance performed by the Quinceanera and her Court.

It is traditional for the Quinceanera to choose special friends to participate in what is called the Court of Honor. Usually, these young people are her closest friends, her brothers, sisters, cousins – the special people in her life with whom she wants to share the spotlight. The Quinceanera's Court of Honor can be comprised of all young girls (called Dama), all young men (called Chambelán or Escorte or Galán) or a combination of both..

The Quinceanera traditionally wears a ball gown, with her Court dressed in gowns and tuxedos.

One of the most popular is the Changing of the Shoes. The father or favored male relative ceremoniously changes the young girl’s flat shoes to high heels. This is a beautiful symbol of the Quinceañera’s transformation from a little girl to a young lady.

At the reception, there is always the toast to the Quinceanera, known as the brindis, the guests are invited to offer their congratulations and best wishes.

Guests usually receive small tokens, cápias and cerámicas, to commemorate the celebration. There are many traditions throughout the quinceanera celebration.

The Last Doll is used as part of the ceremony or as decoration and keepsake. In some customs, the Quinceanera doll represents the last things of a child now that the Quinceanera will focus on the things of a young lady. In some Hispanic cultures, the cápias (printed ribbons with the Quinceanera’s name and date) are pinned to the doll, and the Quinceanera circulates among her guests, thanking them for their presence and presenting them with a memento taken from the doll.

The Quince Años is a glorious celebration that remains a cherished and honored tradition.

E-Session: Marissa and Mike

They grew up in the same town. Just minutes away from each other. Their paths had crossed time and time but they didn't meet until one fateful day through friends. Now they are inseparable. Supposedly Mike was camera shy but I think they both did great and the camera loved them! So do I!
